Believe the Unbelievable

Resurrection moved me to start writing this, the drama is that good, it’s that thought provoking. Resurrection is the number one scripted drama in the US, set in Arcadia, Missouri but a boy from there thought to have died thirty-two years ago, wakes up in the present at a rice field in China at the same young age of his death. An immigration officer played by Omar Epps, famous worldwide for his role of one of the senior doctors for the medical drama House, escorts the boy home where the boy’s loved ones are all older, while he’s the same kid. That is unbelievable.

The Asian premiere of Resurrection was shown at Greenbelt park last May 9, 2014, featuring a live interview with Omar Epps and Kurtwood Smith, who was the grumpy father in the comedy series That 70s Show. Banners advertised their appearance, the internet sprung alive with contests for free tickets, and my wife and I just had to show up for autographs. We appeared at the entrance of the event with a DVD of House which had Omar Epps on the label, which I spent the week fantasizing he’d sign. But the organizers told me that autographs were not allowed. We began leaving, but then we turned around so I could mention I write for Movies and Melodies, and the organizer said it was okay to watch. We got in! That is unbelievable.

We were seated in the VIP section, second row, when the stars walked down the aisle and sat on the sofa in the middle of the stage, with Issa Litton, the host and interviewer. My wife and I had a great view. The event would even get better… the organizer included professional pictures for free! But it was announced the picture taking with Omar and Kurtwood would be in groups of five to ten people, for speed, which meant that if you came with two friends, you’d pose with up to seven strangers. But the cool thing was that along the way the professional photographers and ushers grouped us all in the couples and groups of friends that we came with. Nice! Then a week later the pictures were posted on Facebook at Lifetime Asia and I was amazed to see us posing with Omar Epps and Kurtwood Smith! That is unbelievable.

Unfortunately, even though the trailer hooked me, we had to go after the picture taking and missed the Asian premiere of Resurrection. To make it up to myself, I spent a few days surfing comments of the program and they were good. At the premiere I felt compelled to watch and I regretted that we missed it. Resurrection is on Mondays, 10pm on Lifetime, which is the best reason to stay up. While I was surfing and reading, an amazing thing happened. As I gazed at the Lifetime Asia page, clicking on, and being riveted to the picture of Resurrection – I saw the button to view the first episode! Fantastic! I clicked on it and watched, glued to the show until it finished. Each questionable implication, each mind blowing past vs. present connection is shown to be credible. Check it out, because there are some things in life we can’t believe… but Resurrection makes you believe the unbelievable.
